François Dauphin, CPA, MBA
President and Chief Executive Officer, Institute for Governance (IGOPP)
François Dauphin has been appointed president and CEO of the Institute for governance (IGOPP) as of June 1st 2020. An accountant by training (CPA), Mr. Dauphin completed an MBA and doctoral studies in business strategy at the École des sciences de la gestion (UQÀM), under the direction of professors Yvan Allaire and Mihaela Firsirotu.
Mr. Dauphin has worked in the fields of management, strategy and governance for the past 20 years. From 2017 to 2020, he was vice-president of a property management firm, where he was responsible for the company’s finances, compliance and human resources, as well as the supervision and governance of some 20 co-owners’ boards of directors.
As IGOPP’s research director from 2014 to 2017, he was responsible for various research projects, that in collaboration with the executive chair of the board, led to publications in Canada, France and the United States, in the form of scientific and news articles, research reports and position papers.
Previously, he was a consultant for the Management Accounting Continuous Learning Program at the Ordre des CPA du Québec.
Prior to that, Mr. Dauphin was, for several years, director of finance and strategic investments with a private family conglomerate. In this capacity, he managed the conglomerate’s finances and administration and supervised the finances and cash flow of the various subsidiaries (holding companies and companies with operations in several unrelated business sectors). In addition, he was responsible for piloting acquisition (negotiation and due diligence) and divestiture projects. In this role, he also provided general management and financial management for the various operating subsidiaries during transition periods, mainly SMEs in the distribution and retail sectors.
Since 2008, Mr. Dauphin has lectured at the strategy department of the École des sciences de la gestion, Université du Québec à Montréal where he taught a master’s seminar on “Strategy and Radical Change”.
Mr. Dauphin is a member of the Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec and serves on the Ordre’s Corporate CPA Committee as well as on the editorial working group for management accounting.
